Champion’s MMX transceivers allow utilization of existing
multimode fiber installations that may have been left unused due to
distances exceeding the standard 500 meters allowed for GigE transmission,
up to 2km on 62.5/125μm multimode fiber, and further on 50/125μm
fiber.

Get past the LX without the cost and concern of a ZX
Champion's 40km GBICs and SFPs were designed to take advantage of
better receivers and overcome a common problem facing many telcos:
what to deploy when you are needing greater than an LX's range, and
far from the power required for a ZX?
Many applications, including DSLAMs, are deployed within 25-30km of a central office (CO). This eliminates the LX, or 10km part, and means that a ZX will usually be deployed along with an attenuator. Add to this added complexity the price difference (sometimes as great at 4x the LX part) and an intermediate solution becomes much more attractive!
Champion's 1000SFP40 and 1000LX40 parts utilize a 1310nm laser and an enhanced receiver, allowing non-attenuated deployments of optics for intermediate-reach applications.
It should also be noted that, since the 1310nm laser is a less powerful laser than a standard 1550nm (used in a ZX) it can be matched, or face, standard LX transceivers without a concern for saturation of the receiver.

of better receivers, and overcome a common problem facing many telcos:
what to deploy when you are greater than an ZX's range, but amplification
is cost- or location-prohibitive?
As the MAN grows, the range of 70-80km from a central office (CO) is becoming more commonplace. Over the range of a ZX typically means deploying a long-haul solution. Add to this added complexity the price difference, and the need for a higher-powered extended range optic becomes apparent.
Champion's 1000SFP120 and 1000ZXL parts utilize a hotter 1550nm
laser and an enhanced receiver, allowing deployments of optics for
extended-reach applications.
