Champion’s MMX transceivers allow utilization of existing
multimode fiber installations that may have been left unused due to
distances exceeding the standard 500 meters allowed for GigE transmission,
up to 2km on 62.5/125μm multimode fiber, and further on 50/125μm
fiber.

The MMX, available in both GBIC and SFP form factor can extend
that reach to 2km on 62.5/125um fiber, without the use of a mode-conditioning
cable, thus freeing up old FDDI-install fiber, and saving you the
cost and effort of pulling new fiber.
